Having A Lowered Vehicle Towed? Try These Tips

Posted on: 12 October 2015

If you love the look of a lowered vehicle, you might have had work done to your car. You probably already know how to drive carefully over railroad tracks and speed bumps, but you might be worried about your vehicle being damaged if you are having it towed. Luckily, there are a few different things you can do to keep your car safe from damage when being towed.

Let the Towing Company Know Beforehand

When you call for a tow, make sure that the towing company knows that your car has been lowered. Then, the towing company will know to send someone who is experienced at towing lowered vehicles and can send the right equipment to get the job done without damaging your car.

Remove the Bumpers

If you have the time and the right tools -- such as a screwdriver, depending on your particular body kit and how it was installed -- then it might be a good idea to remove the bumpers. Then, you won't have to worry about them being scraped when your car is being put on the tow truck.

Consider a Different Type of Tow Truck

Many people like to have their cars towed with a flatbed truck since it doesn't put too much pressure on any of the tires. However, the undercarriage and the bumpers on your car could be scraped when it's lifted onto the flatbed truck. Luckily, there are other options. For example, if your towing company tows your car from the front tires and allows your back tires to roll on the road, you won't have to worry as much about scraping the bottom of your car. Although this can cause more wear and tear on your back tires, it shouldn't be a big deal if you aren't having your car towed very far. Obviously, however, this won't be an option if you are having your car towed due to problems with your back tires.

Use an Extended Ramp

If you do put your car on a flatbed truck, ask for an extended ramp. An extended ramp will be longer and will have less of an incline, which can be easier on your lowered vehicle.

As you can see, there are a few different tips that you can try if you need to have your lowered car towed. Luckily, following these tips will help keep your lowered car in good shape when working with a towing service like Darryll's Towing.
